I’ve been blogging for over a decade, and I’ve been a pet blogger for more than 6 years. During that time, I’ve gotten a lot of questions from readers and friends about how to start a pet blog. That’s why I’ve decided to do a series of blog posts to help you get started in the pet blogging industry.
But first, I want to ask you a question:
Why do you want to be a pet blogger?
It may seem like a simple enough question, but I highly recommend that you do some serious soul searching before making the decision to start a pet blog. Ask yourself a few questions:
- Am I passionate about pets? Do I want to share my pet-owning experiences with others?
- Do I enjoy writing about and photographing my pets?
- Do I want to connect with other pet parents and build relationships with them?
- Am I up for learning the technical ins and outs of running a website?
- Do I have the spare time to devote to writing my blog and building my readership?
If you answered yes to these questions, then you’re an excellent candidate for becoming a pet blogger. Congratulations!
What are your goals in starting a pet blog?
Do you want to share your knowledge and experience with other pet lovers? Do you want to showcase your writing skills? Maybe you’ve heard that blogging is a lucrative business and you want to make a lot of money.
Well, let’s talk about that. Yes, there is money to be made in blogging, and there are lots of different ways your blog can produce income for you (we’ll get into that later). But for most bloggers, it takes months, even years, to build a blog that will yield an income that will allow you to quit your day job. It doesn’t happen overnight, and it takes a lot of patience.
Growing a successful blog is a marathon, not a sprint. It takes work and dedication, but it’s so worth it. Are you up for it?
The first step to starting a pet blog is knowing your “why”. Once you’ve figured that part out, you’re ready to move on to step 2: setting up your site. Come back next week and we’ll dive into the fun stuff!

Yes! I am dying to start a pet blogging business. I have so much to share – bursting at the seams, I want to educate and guide owners on caring for their pets in a natural and wholesome way.
