A few weeks ago, we talked about 5 reasons why you should scoop your dog’s poop. It seems we all know we should be doing it, but we’re not so good at putting it into practice.
Take a look at the awesome infographic below. It addresses some specific laws in effect in Dallas – are there poop scooping laws in your area? If you’re a dog owner who isn’t diligent about cleaning up after your pet, you’d best find out what the law expects of you. Otherwise, you could end up being fined.
(And ew, can you imagine that the average dog produces 274 pounds of poop per year! Yikes!)
Yes, you can hire a professional company to come out and clean up all the dog poop on your property, but what about when you walk your dog through the neighborhood? Or when you visit a park? Let’s face it, there are just going to be times when it’s up to you: be a responsible dog owner and clean up after your pet.
I’m very excited to be partnering with Sugar The Golden Retriever, as well as Oz the Terrier, Emma,MYGBGV, Pawsitively Pets, and According To Garth Riley to raise awareness about the importance of cleaning up after your pet.
This month we’re giving 2 readers a chance to win some handy supplies that will make clean-up even easier: biodegradable dog poop bags and Frost Finger gloves from Earth Rated. We really want to make it as easy as possible for you to scoop that poop, and these awesome prizes should help!

Great post!
Keep on scooping,
Tootsie
That is a great infographic! We have poop-scooping rules here in our gated community but you know there are people who just refuse to scoop! It’s why we made our own signs (out of wooden bbq skewers) and stick them in the unscooped poop! Unfortunately, they haven’t made a huge impact…yet!
Glad to be a Scooper with you!
Oz
I always pick up after my dogs. It’s hard to find biodegradable bags though. I’d love to try these!
PAWsome infographic, Golden Thanks for sharing. We don’t use a service, jut pick it up right away … I think it is the proper way to do. Leaving poops on the ground for days is not safe. #ScoopThatPoop
YES I would love to be entered in this giveaway!
Very interesting infographic. It is hard to believe that there are that many people who would refuse to scoop their dog’s poop! That is nuts. Thanks for the great post. I entered the contest!
I have five Treeing Walker Coonhounds, so you can imagine how much poop we have to deal with. I typically do two daily pick-ups in our yard, and I always keep a roll of poop bags with me when I want them or take them anywhere. I drive rescue transports and we make sure to always pick up after the dogs on the hand-off locations.
The most common excuse I hear is “It’s natural and it will just decompose on its own.” That may be the case, I don’t know. But in urban areas with so many dogs around, obviously that would be a lot of poop lying around waiting to decompose. Yuck!
I’m thankful the people in my area seem to be pretty responsible. The only time they may not be so diligent is at night if the street is not well lit. There is one road by my apartment with no street lights, and there is noticeably more poop over there. Yuck. When I lived in Fargo, I noticed a lot more poop around in the winter. I think that is related to the cold and people being too lazy to pick up the poop while wearing gloves/mittens and also because the snow would just cover it up until spring.
At home, we do pay for a scooping service in the back yard and it is money well spent! But I always keep 3 bags in my pocket on walks to take care of anything there.
I LOVE that infographic!
I saw that infographic when I was looking for a theme for today. I like it a lot.
I have to admit that until I had three dogs I was not as diligent about cleaning up my yard as I am now. But cleaning up in public has always been a no-brainer! A ticket, the mess and (worst of all) if a neighbor saw me leave poop behind! There aren’t any times in my life that I care about what other people think of me but I do not want to be known as the neighbor who doesn’t scoop that poop!
I would love to be entered into the giveaway. We can always use more poop bags. We live in an apartment complex and always pick up after our dogs. I just wish our neighbors all did the same!
