Did you know that providing proper dental hygiene can help pets live up to 20 percent longer? It’s true, so taking care of your dog’s teeth really is a pretty important task.
I know it’d be great if dogs could brush their own teeth, but since they can’t, the responsibility falls to us, the loving pet parent. There are many different schools of thought on how often a dog’s teeth should be brushed, so my advice is to ask your veterinarian what he suggests.
There are many products on the market that aid in your dog’s dental health, and I’ve tried quite a few. Recently VetIQ asked me to try Minties, and Nike, Sadie, and I were happy to say yes.

Minties is a vet grade product that comes in a variety of different sizes, making them great for both my 65 pound Pit Bull mix and my 15 pound Dachshund. I like that they’re made with natural ingredients including herbs like parsley, dill, and fennel, and they’re free of the unnecessary stuff like wheat, corn, soy, and artificial flavors.
Minties have a “triple action formula” that does 3 things:
- Helps clean teeth
- Promotes fresh breath
- Helps control plaque and tartar
While nothing can take the place of actually brushing your dog’s teeth, Minties definitely play an important role in your pet’s oral health care. But how do they taste?

Well, considering the fact that we now have to spell M-i-n-t-i-e-s because Nike loves them so much and begs for them every time she hears the word, I’d say they must taste pretty good!
VetIQ also sent us a package of their Hip & Joint. While one package isn’t enough for us to see any definite results, we like the fact that Hip & Joint contains glucosamine, creatine, and Omega 3 fish oil, all of which are proven to help with joints, muscles, and cartilage. Joint concerns arise as dogs get older, and I strongly believe that a product like Hip & Joint is important for all dogs to maintain their freedom as they age. Both dogs seemed to like the taste, too.

What I like best about all the VetIQ products is that they are veterinary grade products made right here in the USA, and that’s important to me. It should be important to you, too.
Psst! The opinions in this post are my own. I do not work for, or with, any brand mentioned in this article, nor do I have an official relationship with them. I have a relationship with GigaSavvy, for whom I create original editorial content. The Lazy Pit Bull does not promote products we wouldn’t buy and use for ourselves and/or our pets.

Ooo Shiner adores Minties! I love the way they smell too.
I’m not sure I care for the smell, but the dogs sure love them and that’s all that matters! 🙂
Sugar just had a Minties today 🙂 Golden Woofs
Hope she enjoyed it! <3
Ohhh, I’m loving the idea of the Hip & Joint Glucosamine supplement, I’ve been trying to find one for Rio after his surgery. The one we have him on doesn’t really agree with his tummy so we’re on the hunt for one that doesn’t do that. And I’ve never heard of the minties prior to this, but I’m sure Lola and Rio would jump up and down for them. The problem with Lola is that she barely even chews those type of things before just gulping it down. Ugh, kind of defeats the point, lol.
