Today is National Dog Fighting Awareness Day. The Lazy Pit Bull is partnering with the ASPCA to spread the word about this disgusting “sport”, and to encourage you to get involved and help put an end to this terrible form of animal cruelty.
In the city, the suburbs, and even in rural areas, dog fighting rings exist and every single day, this vicious and despicable form of cruelty is taking place.
And it’s not just the unimaginable mistreatment of these dogs that should horrify you – it’s all the other illegal activities that go along with dog fighting. By its very nature, involves illegal gambling. Additionally, dog fighters are frequently charged with offenses such as money laundering, illegal drugs and alcohol, weapons violations, and even assault and homicide.
Now tell me – is this the kind of activity you want going on in your neighborhood? Of course you don’t, but you might wonder what you can do to stop it.
The first step is to speak up. Alert the authorities to any suspicious activity, even if you’re not entirely sure it involves dog fighting. The first step to stopping it is identifying it.
The ASPCA wants to provide you with information about dog fighting and ways you can help stop it. Tonight they’re hosting a Google+ Hangout from 7 to 8pm ET, and they’d love for you to join them to learn more.
You might also want to visit the ASPCA website to check out a never-before-seen documentary film that includes undercover footage of dog fights and ASPCA rescue activity at dog fighting busts.
There’s also a “virtual museum” photo gallery of dog fighting and training paraphernalia that will shock you. I saw these items in person last year when I attended an invitation-only event at the National Museum of Crime & Punishment as a guest of the ASPCA. Seeing those items really brings into sharp clarity the reality of dog fighting and the horrors that fighting dogs are subjected to.
The photos included in this post were taken from the ASPCA’s website. These dogs are all victims of dog fighting. They are not bad dogs. They are victims of a terrible crime that happens, in part, out of their eagerness to please and love for their owners. It’s the worst kind of betrayal, being so horrifically used by someone you trust.
Please join us tonight for the Google+ Hangout and visit the ASPCA’s site to learn how you can put an end to dog fighting.
It’s just sickening, isn’t it!? The people behind the scenes of dogfighting need to be caught and I think we as a community can do a lot if we look for signs and report any suspicions..thanks for posting – feel free to link up this post to my recent blog post on dogfighting!
So disgusting! I am glad so many people are raising awareness for this today. We are doing a special blog hop today to get people involved. BTW I shared a couple of the adoptable PitBulls I have seen on your site, I hope you do not mind. I put them on my post today.I directed credit back to your blog of course.

We need to fight for them and start blaming the humans.

Those photos are so sad. I’m looking forward to the hangout tonight. Thanks for sharing your information.
poor dogs iam not sure why any one would do such bad things to them iam sure they would not like it if some one did it to them maybe that should happen and let them see how it feels.
Great post! So glad you joined the blog hop. I can’t imagine why anyone would want to be any part of a dog fight:(
Oh, those poor pups. Thanks for doing your part to raise awareness.
Excellent post and so glad you joined the hop today. sharing.l
Heartbreaking photos 🙁 However, great and informative post. Thanks so much for sharing and joining the blog hop!
Breaks my heart to see innocent dogs being abused like this.
Thank you so much for this post and for all you do to help end dog fighting! My family and I are fostering a dog for the first time and he is a Pit Bull. He was so sick, emaciated and badly injured he could barely stand in his shelter video. Due to his injuries we think he must have been used as a “bait dog”. He is one of the kindest and most loving souls one could ever meet. He has completely melted out hearts. I’m writing a blog about him hoping to inspire more people to look in their local shelter or rescue for their next best friend. I also hope that as people get to know Ke-ola, our foster Pit Bull, they will see that it is a wonderful breed. http://iloveshelterdogs.blogspot.com
Thank you again for all you do. I’m sharing your blog near and far.
Sometimes, I just don’t get how cruel people could be. These poor dogs have souls and they feel just like us. Vicious and immoral incidents like these are the doing of pathetic and miserable low-lives. So if you know anyone involved or amused by this evildoing, they are mentally ill! There is just no other acceptable explanation for these kinds of behavior. Let’s keep a concern and watchful eye on our neighborhood. We could really help save a life.
The lil’ pup with the huge collar is so sad. I would not put that on my 2 yo staffy/lab mix. I don’t have a problem speaking my mind. 🙂 I fostered pit mixes for the last 3 years and owned several. I am always amazed at the ways of cruelty people come up with.
