If your family is anything like mine, I’ll bet you enjoy spending a lot of time outdoors during the summer months. But let’s be honest: mosquitos, ticks, and fleas can put a real damper on the fun and make you want to retreat to the bug-free indoors.
We live on a pond, so our backyard can be especially buggy on warm summer evenings. The Dog Dad and I love to spend time on our deck with the dogs, but we don’t like to use commercial bug spray and citronella candles to keep the bugs away. That’s why I started looking into effective alternatives and I was excited to learn about Mosquito Joe.
Is mosquito prevention on your mind this summer? Read on as I tell you a little about my experience with Mosquito Joe.
I made a simple phone call to schedule a time for Mosquito Joe to come out to my home. A trained technician came and treated my yard with a barrier spray that eliminates those nasty biters for 21 days. The spray targets shrubs and plants to kill mosquitoes on contact, and then it bonds to foliage where it acts as a mosquito repellent for weeks to come.
The technician also walked my property looking for mosquito breeding areas, because prevention is all about breaking the mosquito life cycle. Getting rid of the adult bugs isn’t enough; you’ve got to stop new ones from hatching and infesting your home and yard.
Of course one of my first questions about Mosquito Joe was, “Is this okay to use around my family and pets?” And I’m happy to report that it most definitely is. Mosquito Joe uses Pyrethrins, insecticides that are derived from a naturally occurring compound called pyrethrum found in the chrysanthemum flower. Pyrethroids are used in many products that control insects such as household pest insecticides, pet shampoos and sprays, and even lice shampoos applied directly to the scalp.
The barrier spray treatment helps control other pests, too, such as fleas, ticks, and some flies. That helps to make your backyard the peaceful, bug-free sanctuary it was meant to be! I mean, what good is a beautiful backyard if you and your family can’t enjoy it?
After Mosquito Joe sprayed my yard, the dogs and I had to wait only 30 minutes before we were able to get back outdoors. I loved that there wasn’t much downtime after the spray, and Nike and Georgie were happy that their ball-playing time wasn’t too terribly impacted.
It’s so nice being able to use our deck and backyard without having to fight off the bugs. That means more happy hours, more barbeques, and more summertime fun for my family, and for that I’m so grateful.
