Would you ever imagine that your dog’s breed should be considered when choosing a food bowl for her?
It’s true. And you should also take into consideration other things like her height, the shape of her snout, and how quickly she eats. That’s a lot to think about, isn’t it?
Nike and I recently had the opportunity to review the Mesh Single Bowl Feeder from Muttropolis. This is an elevated bowl that’s recommended by veterinarians because it “helps your pup not to gulp his or her food, thereby reducing air intake and… you guessed it, air outtake!”

What I like about an elevated bowl is that my tall dog doesn’t have to bend her head way down in order to eat. This takes unnecessary stress off of her neck and joints.
What Nike liked best about the bowl was that it had food in it.
Muttropolis has a lot of great pet bowls to choose from, and when you’re shopping for your dog’s next dish, keep in mind the tips and pointers shown in the infographic below. This will help you choose the best bowl for your dog, for the sake of her health and comfort.

We just got the puppies slow feed bowls and they really really work! I’m so excited, because they were woofing down their food so fast. I worried about bloat. Now it takes them longer than our adult dogs to finish 🙂
I’m glad you found bowls that work for your babies, Kimberly. I have the same issue with Nike eating fast, and an elevated bowl does seem to make a difference for her.
I was told that elevated feeders increase the chance of bloat in dogs that are more susceptible to it.
Emma, I always advise checking with your vet if you have questions, but all of the research I’ve done indicates just the opposite. Dogs are less likely to get bloat when they eat from a bowl that is the optimum height for them.
I agree that you should consider your dog’s height when choosing their food bowl. You also mention that an elevated bowl will help them from eating too fast. I think it’s a good idea to choose a dog food that is designed for your dog breed.
