I’ve written many times about the fact that I love to cook for my dogs. I get a lot of peace of mind knowing that what they’re eating is healthy and made from wholesome, fresh ingredients.
But one of the things I often hear people say is that they don’t have the time or money to cook for their pets.
That’s why I’m sharing this oh so simple recipe with you today, so you can see that cooking for your dogs doesn’t have to be time-consuming or expensive.
Chicken Doggy Helper
I call this recipe Chicken Doggy Helper, and it includes just 3 simple ingredients:
- 1 pound of ground chicken
- 1 small bag of frozen peas and carrots
- 1 cup of cooked rice
It’s highly likely you have those ingredients in your kitchen cupboard right now, so you won’t even have to make a trip to the store to try this recipe!
Now take a look at how simple it is to whip up this delicious, healthy meal that your dog will love!
This recipe makes enough food for 2 meals for my 2 dogs, a 70 pound Pit Bull mix and a 9 pound Dachshund.
The total cost for the ingredients is around $6, and it took less than 15 minutes to make.
The ground chicken can be substituted with ground turkey or beef, but make sure you use super lean beef to reduce the amount of fat.
As you can see, cooking at home for your dog doesn’t have to be complicated or costly. And trust me when I say that your dog will love this recipe, and so will you. It’s so nice to know that your mutt is eating healthy.
- 1 pound of ground chicken
- 1 small bag of frozen peas and carrots
- 1 cup of cooked brown rice
- Brown the ground chicken in a large skillet.
- At the same time, cook one cup of brown rice in a separate pan.
- Drain off any grease and return the chicken to the skillet.
- Add one small bag of frozen peas and carrots.
- Add the cooked rice and cook until all ingredients are mixed and warmed through.
- Let cool and serve to your dog.
- Uneaten servings can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.

I have a golden retriever and a Great Pyrenees/lab mixed. How much would I give them along with their dry dog food? They usually get about 2 cups am & pm.
