As a super busy dog mom (or dad), you probably struggle to keep up with the housework, the errands, and the other stuff that life throws your way.
I get it, because I have the same issues. I mean, if I could get another 3 or 4 hours in the day, I might be able to get it all done.
Then again, maybe not.
If keeping a clean home is important to you, but there never seems to be enough time, you’ll want to keep reading because today I’m sharing my very simple dog mom’s house cleaning routine with you.
This simple routine works for me and helps me keep my home in order, and it just might work for you, too.
I break my house cleaning into 2 categories: daily and weekly chores. This allows me to get a few small things done everyday, and some bigger things done once a week. Take a look below.
Daily Cleaning Routine
- De-clutter each room by putting away dog toys, mail, clothes, etc.
- Wash all dishes (including pet bowls) or put them in the dishwasher
- Wipe down kitchen counters and dining table
- Take out the trash
- Make my bed
- Wipe down bathroom counters and swish toilet bowl
- Scoop litter box
- Wash one load of laundry
I do all of these tasks each and every day of the week, and it takes me less than 30 minutes a day to do it all.
When I stay on top of daily chores, my home looks and feels clean and this makes momma very happy.
Weekly Cleaning Routine
- Wash all towels and bedding (including pet beds)
- Deep clean bathrooms
- Sweep and mop floors
- Spot clean all carpets with Spot Shot Pet®
- Dust all furniture, mirrors, and light fixtures
- Clean out fridge
- Water plants
I do these tasks just once per week, and because I do the smaller tasks on a daily basis, my weekly chores literally take just a few minutes.

These are great tips for people with dogs, like me! I love to see everyone else’s cleaning schedules (I guess I’m kinda nosy) and compare them to my own! Do you have any chores you do less frequently? For example, I hire a carpet cleaner once year to deep clean the carpet (more often if one of my dogs has an “accident” in the house!). I’d love to know if I’m missing something, haha!
Yes! I have lots of once a year chores! Like you, I get my carpets professionally cleaned, I do the windows inside and out, and I move the fridge, washer, and dryer out so that I can clean behind them. There’s probably other things, too, but that’s all that comes to mind at the moment! 🙂
It’s good to know I don’t need to call in professionals EVERY time my dogs are less than good roommates. Although I definitely like to get my carpets cleaned twice a year – once in the fall and once in the spring. To each their own! Thanks for the great post!
How I wish here could be an extra 3 – 4 hours in the day, I still wouldn’t have enough time! Spending a small amount of time each day cleaning and tidying definitely helps to keep on top of things.
