I’m always looking for fun, beautiful, and functional dog-friendly items for my home. Recently when I couldn’t find a treat jar that I really loved, the simple answer was to create my own. And now, I want to show you how to do it, too.
The supply list for this project is very short, and most items can be found at your local craft store:
- Glass jar with metal lid
- Dog figurine
of your choice (that’s an affiliate link) – I’ve found that plastic seems to work best
- Spray paint in your choice of color and coverage
- Hot glue and glue gun
- Your mutt’s favorite treats

Just follow these simple directions:
- Begin by placing the lid only and the dog figure on some scrap paper such as newspaper.
- Apply two coats of spray paint, allowing the coats to dry thoroughly between applications.
- When the paint is dry (wait at least one hour), apply some glue to the bottom of the dog’s feet. Press to the top of the lid and hold in place until dry and secure.
- Fill the jar with your dog’s favorite treats – maybe our peanut butter & apple sauce cookies! – and secure the lid back in place.

These jars are so simple to create, and they make adorable gifts for your pet-loving friends and family. I think the red lid makes this a wonderful Valentine’s Day present, and you can make these appropriate for any occasion simply by the paint color you choose. You can also add a pretty colorful ribbon to make it even more festive.

I made something similar but decided not to paint them because the dog figures were already solid-colored and I thought they looked good on the silver jar lids. Such a cute idea!
I wish I’d found some solid colors. As you can tell, this one had spots, which I didn’t necessarily mind.
That is such a cute idea. We will have to try it!
If you do, send me a pic or post it on my FB page! I’d love to see it!
This is so cute! Wonder if I can find a pyr figurine?
Most of the craft stores have pretty “standard” breeds of dogs, but maybe it you look online?
Christina this is adorable!!! I am absolutely going to do this! This would be an adorable gift idea to someone who brought home a new pet and could totally work for other pets too!
Thanks Jessica! You’re right, it would make a great gift for a new pet! And yes, I’m sure little cat figurines can be found at craft stores, and even other animals if someone was so inclined! 🙂
That’s just genius all wrapped up in lovely!
That’s so cute! I’m definitely going to have to bookmark this one to come back and try next time I’m feeling crafty!
Too cute! What a great idea.
What a cute idea! These would be great for Christmas gifts for friends that have dogs. You could even fill the jars with homemade dog treats.
Now I need to find a little pit bull figurine! These are so cute :).
