When I tell people that I’m a work at home dog mom, they usually say, “Oh, you’re so lucky! I’d love to be able to stay home and play with my dog all day!”
Now, don’t get me wrong. I am lucky. Working from home affords me the luxury of spending time with my dogs, hanging out in pajamas all day, and still being able to make a living. I’m very blessed.
But it not all fun and games. It’s a lot of hard work running a business and taking care of a home and family, and that’s why today I’m sharing a day in the life of a work at home dog mom with you.
Plus, if you hang around until the end of the post, you’ll have a chance to win a very cool prize from Sacco Studios!
Day in The Life of a Work at Home Dog Mom
9:00 am – Time to get up.
One of the things I love most about working from home is that I can sleep in. I am not a morning person, and getting out of bed is a challenge for me every day.
There are 2 things that motivate me to get out of bed every morning. Georgie is the first thing, because she’s totally a morning dog. She loves morning time, and she’s eager to embrace the possibility of every new day! And just look at that face!
The other thing that motivates me to get out of bed is coffee. Hubby and I cut out caffeine last fall, but a hot, creamy cup of decaf coffee is still a great reason to get up and face the day!
I feed Georgie now, and I also eat a bowl of oatmeal, some raisin toast, or fruit salad. I totally believe that breakfast is the most important meal of the day!
10 am – Time to clean up.
I spend one hour every day cleaning up around the house. This includes making my bed, washing the breakfast dishes, starting a load of laundry, and any other chores that need to be done. This is also when I get dressed to face the day. Most days I don’t hang out in my jammies all day, but it’s nice to know I couldn’t if I wanted.
11 am – Get to work.
Around 11, I finally sit down at my computer (with my second cup of coffee) and check email. I also take a quick look at social media to see what’s happening in the world. Then I open up my planner to see what’s on my to-do list for the day, and I get busy doing whatever is on the agenda.
I started my business, Inspired Media Group, back in 2012. Currently I work as a virtual assistant and social media manager for 17 clients, and I also partner with several pet-friendly brands and shops to promote fun products and services for dogs and dog moms. Shops like Sacco Studios, but we’ll get to that in a few minutes.
I usually work until about 4 pm, taking short breaks to walk Georgie and Nike and eat lunch.
4 pm – Run errands.
Now’s the time when I run errands like going to the post office and the bank, running to Hobby Lobby, and picking up a nice cold Starbuck’s treat for myself. Currently, I’m all about the mango green tea lemonade. Mmm, heaven!
I usually take Georgie with me on these little trips, and she loves riding in her Sleepypod. I like that it keeps her safe and secure while we’re out and about.
I’ll also use this time to run to the market if I need to pick up something for dinner. Most groceries stores are not pet-friendly, so Georgie stays home if I need to make a stop to pick up food.
I love shopping at Fresh Market for their floral department alone. I love having fresh cut flowers in my home for a pop of bright color. So gorgeous!
When I get home, I’ll put away the groceries, pour myself a glass of wine, and turn some music on my Sonos (greatest invention ever!). It’s time to start making dinner.
6 pm – Let’s eat.
My dogs know when 6 o’clock rolls around. That’s dinner time at our house, and they’re definitely ready to eat. This is also when I typically start dinner for the rest of my family, and we generally sit down at the table between 6:30 and seven.
After dinner, my husband always helps me clean up the kitchen, then we take the dogs for an after dinner walk.
8 pm – Relax!
Finally, hubby and I sit down (with dogs on our laps) to relax and watch a little TV. Lately we’ve been obsessed with Downward Dog, and we love snuggling up on the couch with our mutts for a little downtime to wind down the day.
10 pm – Last call.
At 10, we take the dogs out for one last potty break for the night. Then we head to the bedroom where we climb into bed (dogs included) for a little more chill time. Occasionally we’ll watch Netflix or Amazon Video, but usually we read or play on our iPads. We’ll also have a late night snack like fruit, something we can share with the dogs.
11 pm – Lights out.
With the dogs all tucked in (usually under our covers), we turn off the television and the lights, and we settled in for a good night’s sleep. It was a good day, and I can’t wait to do it all again tomorrow!

Sounds like you have a great schedule! That mug would be perfect for all the coffee I need to help me through the day!
I love all the items, but my favorite is the mug that says “life is better with a dog”
SO much yes! I get my day started a little earlier but this is pretty much my day also! I also feel extremely blessed to work from home but I also take care of my house and my yard, and it’s A LOT of work! But I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I could always use more dog related totes and mugs. I can’t decide which item I like more!!
I’m lucky that my hubby LOVES taking care of the yard, so that’s how he spends his weekends. It is definitely A LOT to care for a home; we were just talking last night about how much simpler life was when we lived in an apartment. Lol.
I like The Cat Sent Me Shopping bag.
I really like the custom it’s dog mugs. They are adorable. Hope they come back in stock soon.
Hi Amanda! They will be back in stock on June 12, so take a look then!
My favorite item is The Journey of Life is Sweeter When Traveled with a Dog print.
The prints are great.
I love the reusable grocery bag with the yellow lab in sunglasses on the front. It’s so cute!
I LOVE the mug that says, “Life Is Always Better With A Dog”! My life has always had a dog in it, and sometimes cats too, until I developed an allergy to them. But dogs, are the love of my life! Just recently, we lost a dog from some injuries and another had to be put down! This was just like someone taking a piece of my body! It is so heart breaking to say “goodbye”! But I know they will be at the Rainbow Bridge waiting for me! You have such amazing choice of gifts to choose from I don’t know where to begin. But for now, I love the mug the best! I will always have a dog in my life, they are my salvation!!
I love the tote that says, “My cat sent me shopping.”
I like the All I need are you and the dog card.
perfect for many occasions.
I’m a Boston Terrier person, we have two right now, so I like the Boston Terrier, Tank Top.
I love that you can get a custom illustration of your dog on a mug and I also love the “I’d Rather Be At Home With My Dog” tank top!
I like the framed Boston Terrier art the best
Our days have a lot in common. I love the Etsy site and think the dog illustration is pawsome!
