Did you know that more than 50 percent of American households include dogs? And of those households, over 75 percent of them will give their mutts a gift at Christmastime – will you?
Recently I had a chance to chat with some of my favorite pet bloggers, and I asked them, “What’s your favorite thing about spending the holidays with your dogs?” Keep reading to find out what they had to say, and be sure to stop by and visit their blogs, too.
Jessica, Chester, & Gretel
Chester and Gretel live with their mom, Jessica, in Seattle, and they are the inspiration behind the blog You Did What With Your Wiener?. They’re active little dogs, and their blog focuses on their adventures. When it comes to the holidays, Jessica says,
“My dogs are family, so holiday celebrations always include them. I always buy them gifts. They think it’s just another goody jackpot, but I enjoy watching them root around in a Christmas stocking. This year I am cutting down on the gifts though, and giving them an experience instead. I am not sure where yet but I am going to take them out for a special day as their gift.”
We can’t wait to hear more about their special day!
Jen, Mort, & Tig
Mort and Tig live with their mom, Jen, in the San Francisco Bay area. In addition to their blog, Dogthusiast, they run an online shop called Stylish Canine, where you’ll find handmade collars and leashes, decals, t-shirts, and more.
What’s special about the holidays with Mort and Tig? Jen says,
“We don’t have family in town, so most holidays are spent together as our little family unit. We usually take the dogs out on a special ‘dog day’ for the holiday – and it almost always includes the beach. Planning and anticipating this day is my favorite part of the holiday, and because most other people are at home with their families we enjoy ample parking spots and uncrowded areas to run! The ‘dog day’ outings are certainly at the top of my list each year.”
Sounds like a great time for all! I assume we’ll be seeing some photos soon?
Sandra & Dolly
Sandra and Dolly hail from the windy city of Chicago, and they’re the creative force behind the blog aptly titled Dolly the Doxie. There they share product reviews and giveaways, with a focus on keeping pets happy, healthy, and active.
So what does Sandra enjoy most about the holidays with Dolly? She told me,
“I love seeing Dolly try to lay under the Christmas tree! She circles and wads up the tree skirt like it’s her dog bed while the whole tree shakes and she knocks off the branches.”
I love the idea that Dolly is making herself right at home under the tree!
Sarah, Lola, & Rio
Lola and Rio currently live with their mom, Sarah, in the suburbs of the Twin Cities of Minnesota, where they write Lola The Pitty, a blog dedicated to raising positive awareness and fighting the negative stereotypes for often misjudged breeds such as pit bulls. When it comes to the holidays, Sarah says,
“My favorite part is being able to spend time with family, and of course that includes Lola and Rio! We are spending the holidays in Colorado this year and brought them both with us.”
The clan will be moving to Colorado in January and with all that snow, Lola is sure to find lots of flakes!
Jodi, Kolchak, & Felix
The gang from Kol’s Notes includes Koly and Fe, and their mama Jodi. They hail from Vancouver, BC, where they write what’s described as a “baking, crafting, cleaning and lifestyle blog for the DIY enthusiast”. Jodi says,
“Christmas is all about spending time with the ones we love. We have this giant extended family and we all get together, dogs included. It’s noisy and busy and full of fun and laughter, but the best part is after all the hubbub has died away, when it’s just Koly, Fe, and I left, we can snuggle up on the couch, basking in the after glow of a wonderful holiday. I’m sure Kolchak would disagree. He says the best part of the holidays is all the snacks people sneak him under the table.”
You can bet, Koly will be waiting for those snacks!

And of course, my pretty girl, Nike Jayne wants to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year! This is our last post of 2014, but we’ll be back next year and we sure hope you will, too!
Happy Holidays from The Lazy Pit Bull family!
Thanks so much for including me in this illustrious list of dog bloggers! Mom feels kind of silly about her answer though! We loved reading the other stories and we have a lot in common about sharing the holidays. Oh, we’re suppose to get presents? Love Dolly
Hope you had a very Merry Christmas, Sandra and Dolly!
Boomer and Dottie are always included in holiday celebrations, from a special meal to new toys and treats, they are part of the family!
Emily, I hope you and yours had a wonderful Christmas!
