It’s no secret I’m a huge movie lover, and my favorites are chick flicks. What can I say… I’m a sucker for a sappy love story and a happy ending.
What I really love is when I find a chick flick that features a really great dog. That’s the kind of movie that’s likely to become one of my all-time favorites, and I’ll bet those are the kind of movies you like, too, and that’s why I’m excited to share my top 5 chick flicks for dog lovers.
My Top 5 Chick Flicks for Dog Lovers
1) Must Love Dogs – Of course this one is on my list, and let’s be honest: if you’re dating, this should be number one on the list of qualities you’re looking for in a mate. Must love dogs, or I don’t have time for you.

2) Sweet Home Alabama – The big hound dog in this one is just too adorable for words, and he really makes you question the main character’s sanity. I mean, what kind of girl could ever leave a dog like that behind?

3) You’ve Got Mail – Tom Hanks’ character, Joe Fox, has an adorable dog named Brinkley, which is what my dog would’ve been named had my shoe-nut son not named her Nike first.

4) The Truth About Cats & Dogs – This one is cute for so many reasons, not the least of which is the male lead’s charming accent and this adorable dog on roller skates. If you haven’t seen this one, check it out soon. You won’t be sorry.

5) Lady and the Tramp – Oh come on, you know this doggie love story is the ultimate chick flick. How about that spaghetti-sharing scene? Oh so adorable. Need I say more?

What are some of your favorite movies that feature memorable dogs? Tell me in a comment below… and by the way, they don’t have to be chick flicks!
Great list! Have seen all of them but “Must Love Dogs” Now I have a movie to watch tonight, thanks!.
Our favorites are “Turner and Hooch” and “Homeward Bound”
If you watch Must Love Dogs, let me know what you think!
I haven’t seen Turner & Hooch or Homeward Bound in years. Both great movies!
Excellent choices all. Must Love Dogs is one of my all-time favorite movies period, never mind chick flicks or animal-themed. Great movie.
It is a great movie, for sure! ๐
OMG, I just love the movie “The Truth About Cats and Dogs”. The scene with the roller-skating dog is worth it just by itself, but overall, I really love the movie.
I’m getting ready to watch it again right now, Linda! ๐
Huh, I’m surprised I’ve only seen two of the movies on your list. I’d like to agree that one of the qualities to look for in a mate is they “Must Love Dogs”, but I married my husband despite the fact that he had little interest in dogs. He doesn’t dislike dogs, but doesn’t get involved with them too much. That is slowly changing over time. Maya and Pierson are slowly winning him over. ๐
I have to say that ‘You’ve Got Mail’ and ‘Lady & The Tramp’ are my favorites out of these! Haha, such memories with You’ve Got Mail – the good ‘ole AOL days ;).
I’ve only seen number 5 on the list so I’m definitely gonna have to check the rest out. Thanks for sharing!
Yes! I think you’ll love them! ๐
I’ve seen all of these, but it’s been a long time! My favorite movie dog is Zero from The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Yes, Zero is definitely a cute choice! ๐
Oh I think I saw them all but that first one. My fav and the one I really cried at is Marley.
When I saw Marley & Me in the theater, I bawled like a baby and haven’t been able to bring myself to watch it again!
I love Lady and the Tramp!
–Wags (and purrs) from Life with Dogs and Cats
Me too! I could watch i over and over! ๐
I LOVE all of these movies, great choices! I’m a Husky mom so of course I love Eight Below and Snowdogs! I also enjoyed Darling Companion w/ Diane Keaton and Hachi: A dog’s tale w/ Richard Gere. I just love dog movies, I’m always looking for new ones.
I love Diane Keaton, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard of that movie! I’ll definitely have to check it out! Hachi has been on my list for a while, I need to make time to watch it! And I do agree with you about Eight Below and Snowdogs – great movies!
Thank you for sharing ๐ I love all animal movies and seek them out . Some other dog favorites include Homeward Bound and The 12 Dogs of Christmas ๐

Great list! (Although I haven’t seen SHA.) My fave of those is TTAC&D. Such a cute movie! Hachi is really good, but if you watch it – have Kleenex ready!!!
I loved the dog in The Mask. The hubs and I just crack up at the scene when Jim Carrey’s in jail and hs tells the dog to get the keys and instead the dog gets the cheese.
I’m so glad you included “The Truth About Cats and Dogs”. I would have suggested it if you hadn’t. I just LOVE that movie. Oh, and the scene of the dog on roller skates is the best.
