Remember the movie The Bucket List, from a few years back? Like the two characters in the movie, I think we all have a list, even if it’s just in our minds, of things we’d like to do before we die.
But what about a bucket list for your dog? Are there things you want to make sure she experiences in her lifetime? Maybe there are things on your list that you want to do with her?
After reading about Carol’s list on Fidose of Reality, I decided to create a bucket list for Nike. These are a few things I want to experience with her.
Go to the beach.
I love the beach – it’s my favorite place in the world – and every time I’m there, I think about how much Nike would love it. I’m not sure if she’d be hesitant to go into the waves or if she’d charge right in without a second thought, but I know she’d be curious. She’d love to explore all the seashells and little critters in the sand, too.
Go hiking.
This is really more my husband’s bucket list item than mine. He really wants to start hiking in some of our state parks with Nike, and they’re hoping to get a start on it this summer. I think it will be a really awesome bonding experience for the two of them.
Take a flyball class.
Our trainer and the people at Nike’s day care talk often about her obsession with balls. They think she’d be crazy awesome at flyball. There’s a class starting soon, and we’re hoping to get her enrolled in it. I can’t wait to see how much she loves it!
Complete a CGC (Canine Good Citizen) program.
We’re still working on a few behavioral issues, but as soon as she’s ready, we’re excited to get Nike into a CGC class. She’s already a great ambassador for her breed, and having her CGC is just a bonus.
Visit a school or nursing home.
With her CGC, Nike will be able to visit children in schools and the elderly in nursing homes. She loves people, and people always seem to love her, so I’d really like to see her use her wonderful personality and loving nature to bring happiness to others.
Attend the BlogPaws conference.
I went to BlogPaws for the first time last year when it was held in Washington DC, but since it was my first time and I didn’t really know what to expect, I opted not to take Nike. I’ll be attending this year in Las Vegas, but I won’t be taking her this time because I’ll be flying. No way am I putting my dog in a cargo hold on an airplane. So we’ve got our fingers crossed that BlogPaws 2015 will be an easy trip by car for us, and she’ll be able to go with me. Hey BlogPaws, are you listening?
This is just the beginning of our bucket list. As time goes on, I’m sure I’ll be adding new things, and as we complete each activity, we’ll cross it off the list.
Do you have a bucket list for your dog? I’d love for you to share some of it in comments below!
What a fantastic idea! And I’m curious about BlogPaws…..what’s it all about?
Tia, BlogPaws is an amazing conference for pet bloggers! I went last year for the first time, and it was awesome – by far the best blogging conference I’ve ever attended (I’ve been to 4). I feel it’s an absolute must-do for pet bloggers!
Interesting!!!! Never thought of making a bucket list for my dogs!!!!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
I thought it was such a neat idea! Now I think everyone should create a bucket list for their dog! 🙂
I’ve been praying that BlogPaws would be held in Saint Louis or Chicago for years now. If it doesn’t happen soon, it won’t matter, because Bunny will be too old to enjoy attending. They’re both really pet friendly locations, big enough to accommodate the venue and have a lot of interesting things that you can do with your dog. It would be nice to be in a hotel that’s dog friendly all the time, too, instead of just for the conference. *sigh* Can you tell I’ve thought about this too much?
I totally agree, and either St. Louis or Chicago would be perfect for me, too! Let’s just keep our fingers crossed! 🙂
Nike has never been to the beach or hiking??….?! Get on it woman! Ha, ha.
I know, right? We just don’t live anywhere near a beach (unless Lake Michigan counts, and we’re still 3-4 hours from there). And really, until she started training last fall, she was just too reactive to go many places where there might be other dogs and/or people. She’s much better now, so we’re hoping this is the year to start getting her involved in stuff like hiking.
I’m new to all the blogging thing and came across yours. So glad I did. I had a pit for 11 years and he inspired me to get into rescue. I now have a bulldog and must do a bucket list for him! If you appreciate bullies and rescue, I’d love you to check out my blog http://www.roadogsandrescue.com and let me know what you think 🙂 Hopefully I haven’t insulted you by asking…
This is a wonderful idea, I will be doing starting one of these soon, not just for me but four our pups. There are a lot of things that my husband and I would love to do with our dogs.
