Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. In part, it’s because I simply love this time of year. Falling leaves, cooler temperatures, and the beautiful muted colors of the season just make me happy.
But I have to admit, I really love all the costumes. In our neighborhood, it’s not unusual to have over one hundred little ghosts and goblins ring our doorbell on trick-or-treat night.
The only thing that delights me more than the kids are the pets that show up on my porch, wearing their adorable little costumes. I mean, come on, what’s cuter than a Dachshund dressed as a hotdog?
Here are a few of my favorites for 2013. Check these out!
1. Star Wars Yoda Pet Costume – Isn’t this adorable? I love it!
2. Dapper Dog Tuxedo Pet Costume – A dog in a tuxedo. Why not?
3. Doggie Witch Costume – This one is also perfect for cats!
4. Monkey Riding Dog Costume – I’m going to be honest. I don’t know what to say about this one. I mean, what can you say? It’s a monkey riding a dog.
5. Chiquita Banana Costume – Bananas are a Super Food, ya know.
6. Pumpkin Costume – Another adorable costume that’s perfect not only for a small dog, but for cats as well.
7. Butterfly Costume – Float like a butterfly, sting like a bumble bee .
8. Hot Diggity Dog Costume – And there it is, the aforementioned Doxie in a bun.

Halloween Safety Tips For Pets
Pet costumes are adorable, and your pet will undoubtedly be the talk of the neighborhood when you head out with her on Halloween. But keep in mind that pets may become easily spooked by the sights and sounds of Halloween, so please take precautions to keep them safe. Here are just a few tips:
1. Your pet should be wearing a collar with an ID tag that bears your current contact information, and she should be microchipped as well.
2. Always keep your pet on a leash. Your neighborhood will likely be crowded, and you’ll be better able to control your pet – and keep track of her – if she’s safely restrained by a leash.
3. Don’t allow your pet to eat any Halloween treats. Many candies can make her sick, and things like chocolate, raisins, and nuts can be fatal when ingested by dogs.
4. If you’re staying home to greet trick-or-treaters, be aware that as you’re opening and closing your door for little Spiderman and Dora the Explorer, pets might be tempted to slip outside. Keep them safe and secure in another room.
5. Most importantly, keep all pets inside on Halloween night, even those that are otherwise left outside. There is a high incidence of pet theft in the month of October, and you can avoid becoming a statistic by keeping your pets indoors.
In comments below, share a tip for keeping pets safe on the spookiest night of the year!

So CUTE! I still haven’t gotten Rufus’ costume yet. I need to get on it. Whenever I look I get discouraged, though, because they never have the one I want in his big, nuggety size.
