Springtime in Indiana can be really beautiful. When the daffodils start to push up through the cold ground and the trees begin to sprout their new buds, I feel a surge of hope and excitement about the coming season. It’s a time of new beginnings and fresh starts.
But of course there’s also the springtime rain. Those cold, dreary days make me want to curl up on the couch with a warm puppy and a good book (or, let’s be honest, an afternoon of Netflix) and do nothing. But that’s not good for my dogs because even on those yucky days, they need exercise and activity to stay healthy, happy, and stimulated. So what’s a dog mom to do?
In this blog post, I’m sharing 5 rainy day indoor activities to keep your dog busy and active even on the gloomiest of spring days. I also want to talk to you about how Rachael Ray™ Nutrish® Peak™ Wetlands Recipe™ with Chicken, Duck & Pheasant plays an important role in providing optimal protein levels that are perfect for my active dogs.
5 Rainy Day Indoor Activities to Keep Your Dog Busy and Active
1. Tug of War
It’s just about the simplest game around, but there’s really nothing my dogs love more than a rousing game of tug of war. All it takes is a durable rope toy and an energetic mutt, and the game is on! This is also a great way for dog moms to interact with their mutts on a one-to-one basis.
2. Hall Ball
Do you have a long stretch of hallway in your home? This is the perfect venue for a fun game of fetch! My dogs will chase a thrown or rolled ball down the hall dozens of times, bringing it back to me to do it again. It’s a great way to burn off pent up energy and make your dog happy at the same time.
3. Stairway Fetch
Stairs are another way to play fetch with your dog! Throw a ball up the stairs for your dog to retrieve and bring back to you at the foot of the steps. This activity tires my dogs out in a hurry, but they love it so much. I also love being able to use so many areas of my home to engage and entertain my pets.
4. Interactive Feeder Toys
Both Nike and Georgie loves toys that dispense treats. I mean, what dog wouldn’t love that! To keep them busy for a few minutes, I give each of them a toy filled with their favorite treats. It takes a bit of time for them to figure out how to get to the good stuff, and this is a great mental stimulation exercise to help keep dogs from getting bored and restless on rainy days.
5. Hide and Seek
Just like little kids, my dogs love a good game of hide and seek. Simply tell your dog to “stay” while you go hide someplace in the house. Once hidden, you can release the dog and that’s when the fun begins! Georgie gets so excited when she finally finds me! It’s as though she hasn’t seen me in days.
These are just a few fun ways you can keep your dog busy and active indoors on those rainy spring days. What are your dog’s favorite indoor activities?
Usually after we’ve played hard, my dogs are ready to eat. Lately we’ve been giving them Rachael Ray Nutrish PEAK, and not only do they love it, but I love that:
- PEAK dry is a protein-rich food for dogs with nutrient-dense meats.
- Nutrish PEAK dry food contains 30% high-quality protein and 0% grains, glutens, or fillers.
- Every Nutrish PEAK wet food recipe is made with real chicken, combined with protein-rich duck, beef, or lamb for a flavor your dog will love.
Additionally, I like that PEAK is made with real U.S. farm-raised chicken that is always the #1 ingredient, safely USA cooked, and perfect for dogs of all sizes and life stages.
Lastly, I really appreciate brands that give back. Did you know that a portion of proceeds from each sale of Nutrish is donated to The Rachael Ray Foundation, which helps animals in need? Through December 2017, more than $23.5 million dollars were donated to animal charities and other organizations that do good for animals. The funds are used for food, medical supplies, treatments, and more. Many more animals around the country need help, and through The Rachael Ray Foundation, together we can make a real difference in the lives of many four-legged friends.
Find out where to buy Nutrish in your area, and be sure to use these coupons to make your purchase. Georgie and I visited our local PetSmart to make our purchase, and we found Nutrish PEAK proudly displayed right inside the store.
We picked up the Wetlands Recipe with Chicken, Duck & Pheasant dry food, as well as the Wild Ridge™ Recipe with Chicken & Lamb in Savory Gravy. We may also have picked up a new toy or 2 while there; Georgie loves going to PetSmart because it almost always means some sort of special treat or toy for her. Spoiled girl!
Nutrish PEAK is a big hit in our house with both the dogs and with me. Real recipes. Real ingredients. Real good. Isn’t that what every dog mom wants for her mutts?
