I absolutely love shopping in stores where my dogs are welcome, and as a stylish dog mom (or dad), I’ll bet you do, too. Taking your dog along on short shopping trips helps with socialization and also gives your pooch a little bit of exercise and a change of scenery, so it’s definitely a win-win for both pets and parents.
In addition to pet stores that allow dogs, today I’m sharing a list of my 10 favorite retail stores that welcome your dog.
10 Retail Stores That Welcome Your Dog
- Old Navy
- Gap
- Pottery Barn
- TSC (Tractor Supply Company)
- Bed Bath & Beyond
- LUSH Cosmetics
- Barnes & Noble
- Anthropologie
- Lowe’s
- Home Depot
On the flip side, I do want to mention that Menard’s does not allow dogs. In fact, a few months ago when I took Georgie into one of their stores (in her stroller), they actually asked us to leave.
I’ll admit, I didn’t see the sign on the door (the one that said “service animals only”), but I did tell them that because their 2 biggest competitors allow dogs, I just assumed Menard’s did as well. I haven’t shopped there since that day, and I don’t plan to. Why would I give my hard earned money to a business that doesn’t welcome my entire family?
Obviously, it’s important to always double check that your pet is welcome in a particular store, so I advise calling ahead to confirm. Remember, you must keep your pet properly restrained at all times when you’re in a retail store. This is for the safety of your pet and others in the store.
Before you head out on a shopping trip with your mutt, make sure you’ve got a bag of on-the-go essentials. This will help you be prepared for any needs your dog might have while you’re out.

I’d love to hear all about your favorite dog-friendly stores and restaurants in a comment below!
Thanks for sharing this wonderful list! I love bringing my dogs everywhere with us. When we lived in Phoenix (best dog friendly city ever!) it was great, our dogs were so welcome in so many places & outdoor restaurant patios. Now that we’re back in Long Island NY, most stores don’t allow dogs, in face most parks & beaches don’t either! I’m thrilled to see that Barnes & Noble is dog friendly, I didn’t know that! I’m going to call the one closest to us and see if they’ll allow our dogs – maybe just one dog to start with.
