One of my favorite ways to spend a beautiful summer afternoon or evening is with my husband and our dogs. No matter what we’re doing, it’s always more fun when we’re all together.
I’ll bet you feel the same way about spending time with your mate and mutt, so I’ve compiled a list of 10 dog-friendly date night ideas. There’s still plenty of summertime left to try any – or all! – of these great ideas.
10 Dog-Friendly Date Night Ideas
1. A picnic.
Picnics are a lot of fun because they’re casual and relaxing. Spread a blanket out on the ground, and get comfy. This is so much cozier than dinner in a stuffy restaurant that doesn’t welcome your dog.
2. An outdoor movie.
In many cities you’ll find outdoor movies on a summer weekend. This might be a drive-in, or it might be a movie showing in the park. Check your local area to see if this option is available to you; I promise it’ll be a fun night out for you, your significant other, and your dog.
3. Go for ice cream.
Every Sunday evening, we get in the Jeep with the dogs and we go for ice cream. Yes, I do let my dogs have a little bit of ice cream, but if your dog has shown sensitivity to dairy products, you might want to try a different treat.
4. Plan a beach day.
There’s nothing more romantic than a walk on the beach, and your dog will love it, too. Check out this list of some of the top pet-friendly beaches in the US.
5. A concert in the park.
Much like an outdoor movie, outdoor concerts are fun, relaxing, and generally very welcoming to dogs. Take a picnic basket and a bottle of wine and enjoy yourself.
6. Visit a farmer’s market.
On Saturday mornings in the summer, our local farmer’s market is packed with people and dogs enjoying the weather and picking up a few fresh fruits and veggies.
7. Take in a baseball game.
Whether you’re seeing a major league game or just stopping by your local ballpark to watch the little leaguers, an afternoon of baseball with your dog and your love is always a lot of fun.
8. Get a coffee.
I love stopping by my local Starbuck’s with the hubby and the dogs. The humans get their favorite drinks and the dogs get a puppuccino, and then we sit outdoors on the patio. It’s a great way to kick back and relax!
9. Visit a dog-friendly winery.
There are a lot of dog-friendly wineries, and what a fun way to spend an afternoon! Please drink responsibly… and don’t let your dog drink at all!
10. Go shopping.
Luckily my husband loves to shop almost as much as I do, and there are so many stores that will welcome your dog. Check out this short list here.
